Privacy policy

The short version: Whistlestop has no accounts and no server of ours. Your alarms, your sounds and your recordings live on your phone and are not uploaded anywhere.

Last updated October 2, 2026

This policy covers the Whistlestop mobile app and this website. Both are operated by Openroad Apps LLC, Portland, OR, US.

What the app stores, and where

Everything the app knows about you is on your own device, in the app’s private storage. That includes:

  • Your alarms: the times, the labels, and the days they repeat.
  • Which sound libraries each alarm uses, and which sounds you have blocked.
  • Any audio you record in the app, and any audio file you import.
  • Your settings, including the theme and the preminder preferences.
  • A record of which sounds played recently, which is how the app avoids repeating itself.

None of it is sent to us. There is no login, we do not know who you are, and there is nowhere on our side for your alarms to be stored even if we wanted them. If you delete the app, all of it goes with it.

Recordings especially.A recording you make in the app is written to your phone’s storage and read back by the alarm. It is never uploaded, never transcribed, and never used to train anything.

What your phone’s backup may include

If you have iCloud Backup or Android backup switched on, your operating system may include the app’s data in that backup. That is between you and Apple or Google and is governed by their policies, not ours. We have no access to it.

Permissions, and why each one is asked for

  • Alarms and notifications. Required. Without it the app cannot do the one thing it exists for.
  • Microphone. Only asked for when you choose to record a sound, and only used while you are recording.
  • Files. Only asked for when you choose to import an audio file, and only for the file you pick.
  • Exact alarms and battery exemption, on Android. Needed so an alarm fires at the time you set rather than whenever the system gets round to it.

The app does not ask for contacts, location, photos, calendar, health data or anything else, and does not use any of them.

Services we use

A few third party services are involved in running the app and this site. Each one is listed here with what it receives.

ServiceWhat it is forWhat it receives
Apple App Store and Google PlayDistributing the app and taking payment for Pro.Your purchase, handled entirely by the store. We never see a card number and we are not told who bought.
RevenueCatRecording whether this device has unlocked Pro.An anonymous identifier generated for the device, and the purchase receipt the store issued. No name, no email.
SentryTelling us when the app crashes, so it can be fixed.A crash report: the error, where in the code it happened, the device model and the OS version. No alarm content and no recordings.
PostHogAnonymous counts of which features get used, so development goes where people actually are.Events such as an alarm being created, with no account attached and no label text. What you call your alarms is never sent.
ResendDelivering the two forms on this website as email.Whatever you typed into the form you submitted.
VercelHosting this website.Standard server request logs, including IP address, held briefly for security and reliability.

We do not sell personal information, we do not share it with advertisers, and there are no advertising or tracking SDKs in the app.

This website

The site is static pages. It sets no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies. If you choose the light or dark theme by hand, that choice is stored in your own browser and never leaves it.

Two forms on this site send an email when you submit them: the launch list form and the support form. In both cases, what you type is what we receive, and we use it only to do the thing you asked for. An email address given to the launch list is used to send one message when the app is released and is then no longer needed.

Children

Whistlestop is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. Since the app collects nothing to begin with, there is nothing held about a child to delete, but if you believe otherwise please write to us.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export personal information held about you. In practice the app holds nothing about you on our side, so the fastest route for the app’s data is to delete it yourself from the device. See your data for how.

For anything we do hold, such as an email you sent to support or an address on the launch list, write to support@getwhistlestop.app and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the date at the top changes and the previous version is replaced. We will not quietly start collecting something this page says we do not.
