Terms of use
Short, and written to be read. By installing or using Whistlestop you agree to what is below.
Last updated October 2, 2026
Whistlestop is an alarm app, not a medical device. Do not rely on it as the only thing reminding you about medication, an appointment, or anything else where missing it would harm you. Phones run out of battery, get silenced, get left in another room, and operating systems change how alarms behave without warning. Keep a second method for anything that genuinely matters.
Who we are
Whistlestop is made and operated by Openroad Apps LLC, a limited liability company in Portland, OR, US. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean that company, and “you” means the person using the app.
The license you get
We give you a personal, non exclusive, non transferable license to use Whistlestop on devices you own or control, for your own purposes. You may not resell the app, redistribute the sound files on their own, decompile the app, or extract its audio to publish elsewhere.
Pro, and what buying it means
Pro is a one time purchase, not a subscription. It does not renew and it will not charge you again. It unlocks the feature set described on the pricing section at the time you buy: all the included sound libraries, recording your own audio, importing your own audio, and choosing which libraries each alarm draws from.
Buying Pro is not a promise of every feature we ever build. If a future addition carries a genuine ongoing cost to run, it may be offered separately. What you bought keeps working either way, and we will not take a feature out of Pro and sell it back to you.
Purchases are handled by Apple or Google, not by us. Refunds are theirs to grant and are governed by their policies. If you have a problem with a purchase, start with the store; if that goes nowhere, write to us and we will help where we can.
Your own content
Audio you record or import stays yours. It stays on your device, we never receive it, and we claim no rights over it. You are responsible for having the right to use any file you import: do not import audio you do not have permission to use.
Our content
The app, its interface, its name, its artwork and the sounds we ship with it belong to us or are licensed to us. You may use them inside the app as intended. You may not take the sound files out and distribute them.
What we do not promise
The app is provided as is. We work hard to make alarms fire reliably and we test on real hardware, but we cannot guarantee that an alarm will always sound. Things outside our control affect it, including operating system updates, battery saving behavior imposed by phone manufacturers, Focus and Do Not Disturb settings, the device being switched off, and the permissions you have granted.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for anything that follows from a missed, late or silent alarm, or from the app being unavailable. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the app.
Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer law where you live.
Acceptable use
Do not use the app to harass anyone, do not attempt to break or interfere with it, and do not use it in any way that is against the law where you are.
Ending it
You can stop using Whistlestop at any time by deleting it. We may end your license if you breach these terms. If we ever discontinue the app, we will say so publicly before the stores remove it.
Changes
These terms may change as the app changes. The date at the top moves when they do. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules.
